On March 11, 2020 thee World Health Organization stepped forward and stated the situation generated by the new Covid 19 virus as a pandemic. The number of infection cases has increased considerably in the last period, especially in Europe, followed by the United States. Starting with the public statement of the pandemic, the national governments were fully aware of the threat. The government of every country is directly responsible to take measures to organize the medical systems and the medical staff. It is highly important to provide the needed equipment and sanitary materials for treating and preventing the spread of the virus.
In Europe, Italy is by far the most affected country. At this moment Italy counts 24,747 cases of infected people from which 1,809 are declared dead. Unfortunately, it also seems that Spain, Germany and France are experiencing a noticeable increase of the infected people because of the coronavirus spread. Each of this countries has declared more than 5000 cases. The measures taken by the national governments have failed so far to limit the spread of the virus.
Resuming to Romania, at this point March 16, 2020, 158 cases were registered. 9 patients were declared cured and were discharged. The occurrence of the cases in Romania has experienced an increase due to a large number of Romanian citizens living mainly in Italy and other countries in Europe. Due to the evolution and the massive increase of infected people in Europe, more and more Romanians have chosen to return home. Unfortunately, some of them were declared to be carriers of the new Covid 19 virus. Inevitable, they spreaded the virus to other persons with whom they directly or indirectly had contact. So far Romania manages to keep under control through epidemiological investigations the source of the illnesses of all patients. Most of infection cases are caused by the direct contact with a person from outside the country.
